BLR Design Week

BLR Design Week 2022 is the celebration of all things design and its growing relevance in the future of our city. This project revolves around the operations of The Bridge; the marketing team, coordinating backstage operations and collaborating with multiple stakeholders (internal and external) to create an experience for the audience. Working with marketing, management and production, understanding the real-world complexities while learning with each step. In a large team with a vast event management and communication becomes a challenge. Using different organizational structures and frameworks becomes a necessity, and choosing the right ones becomes the task.

Significance

Bangalore is both Silicon Valley and Garden City. It is a city of dynamic growth and the balance of paradox. As such, The BDW icon is based on dynamic symmetry. In this case, a golden rectangle is an age-old symbol of design.  It represents a dynamic process of work built on age-honored principles of balance and proportion.

For the designer who lives in a burgeoning Protopolis like Bangalore, BDW reflects a shared vision of meaningful design, the balance of paradoxes, and the pursuit of excellence in the dynamically evolving design capital of the Global South.

The Association of Designers in India (ADI) is one of the key organisers of the Bangalore Design Week. Committed to promoting best practices in the profession of design in India, ADI aims to create a meaningful interface between the design professionals, users, industry, policy makers and the government. Through this event, they aim to bridge the gap between people and design and envision building a design-conscious future through a design-driven industry and society.

The Spider and Starfish.

Hybrid Model
The Spider and Starfish.

  1. The Bridge best works as a combination of the starfish and spider model.

  2. While power along with accountability lies with top positions, information is still spread through the organisation.

  3. There are clear people in charge and there is a proper chain of command, communication and accountability.

  4. Each section of the Bridge is inter-dependent on the other and work happens when there is an organised collaboration

My Role

My Role

Throughout the course of my journey, I embraced a multitude of roles as a versatile designer. Not only did I excel in creating visually appealing graphic elements such as posters and banners, but I also delved into the realm of spatial design and took charge of project management responsibilities.

The experience starts from the point you have your first touch point of an event, that is awareness, which might all be digital or word of mouth, but the event space, from the moment you step into the location, we want to build an experience that will remind one of Blr Design Week, for a unique experience. We are looking forward to using the whole of Bengaluru, mainly the metro, buses known streets such as church street, as a set for the BLR design week.

Set Experience is an integral part of BDW, whose aim is to create cohesive and compatible creative environments for events, not only limited to a specific event but extending beyond the physical plane to create an experience which is engaging, interactive and fulfilling.

  1. Serve as the bridge between the different entities

(Set team and other teams in Marcom).

  1. Create Sustainable Frameworks.

  1. Design briefs and sprints for collateral development

through Scrum Framework.

(Product Backlog & Product Roadmap)

  1. Creating timelines and deadlines for each

stage and Product.

  1. Creating Inspiration Boards

  1. Looking at the feasibilty of the product

Collage Lead (Brigde - The marcom Team)

Me and Tanmay Sharma Worked as Collage property leads from the Marcom Experience Team. Acting as a Bridge between the Internal and External Stakeholders. Working on a two way communication with Collage Property Leads (Yash, Amitabh, Shradha, Janet)

  1. Understanding the needs of the stakeholders.

It could be ADI or the cohosts collaborating with us.

  2. Making sure we convey only confirmed and

    required information.

  3. Creating future plans for marketing as well as Production.

  4. Creating a timeline for event promotions and collateral.

We were able to achieve these through organization and Touch Base meetings done on regular bases, helping create a two-way communication, Things that were discussed during the meetings:

•What has been Marcom Teams Progress

• Marcom Teams Future Plan

• Requirements from property Leads

(Date/Time/Venue)

• Deliverable Needed from Marcom Team

Event Manager

‘Planning, promoting and ensuring the smooth

running of an event schedule and individual events.'

As an event manager working with the Marketing team of BDW, my role

mainly focused on the smooth flow of the Production and

Working with Budgeting.

When working with the Marketing team for event production, design management

became an essential factor.

“It bridges the creative and free-spirited side of art with the logical

and rational side of the business.”

During Production decision-making, three factors had to be taken into account,

cost, time and efficiency.

MVPs were curated for each event to make it cost-efficient by helping us get rid of

the non-important collaterals as well as to be able to prioritise work - which took into

account two of the agile frameworks, Lean and Kanban, respectively.

Just-in-time Production is a method that uses a production model in which items are created

to meet demand and also works perfectly well with the Incremental Framework, a Principle of Agile.

As a part of the Production team, I also worked with the Production to create the final Print Files.

ON-SITE RECESS

ON-SITE RECESS

As each event day approached, we conducted on-site recces at multiple locations. These recces allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of the various touchpoints and opportunities to enhance the overall experience through our collaterals. Throughout the project, we embarked on five separate recces, each tailored to the specific property.

PRINTING FILES
ORGANIZATION

Ensuring seamless printing processes required meticulous organization of printing files. We carefully structured the file organization to prioritize essential elements for printing. Each file was labeled with the product name, size, quantity, a link to the print file, and the designated material. Excel and Drive were utilized for this purpose as they provided a centralized and easily accessible platform. This streamlined approach prevented any potential chaos that could arise from relying solely on communication through platforms like WhatsApp. Adhering to specific file formats further guaranteed a smooth printing experience, minimizing the risk of issues during the printing process.
